Description

If you’re a survivor of sexual harm, recovering your sexuality is possible. You are worthy of good care.

The toxic effects of sexual trauma and abuse can be devastating and lasting. Victims’ ability to experience healthy sexuality, even if they free themselves from the abuse, is often shattered.

If sexual abuse, violence, or coercive control is part of your story, certified sex addiction therapist (CSAT) and trauma specialist Tabitha Westbrook wants you to know: you are not alone, and healing is possible. In Body & Soul, Healed & Whole, Tabitha draws on her specialized expertise, her own personal story of abuse, and a deep knowledge of Scripture to create a safe and compassionate place for you to start recovering – or even finding – the healthy sexuality God intended for you.

With honest wisdom and empathetic understanding, Body & Soul, Healed & Whole will help you discover how to:

  • process your story of abuse―whether it occurred as a child, within marriage, or by someone in a position of power―without shame,
  • develop healthy relationships with God, with ourselves, and with others (including those of the opposite sex),
  • reconnect with your good body and establish a foundation for healthy sexuality, whether currently married or single,
  • identify and address any spiritual abuse that may have taken place within sexually abusive relationships,
  • understand what arousal structures are, how they’re formed and distorted by abuse, and how to shift them when needed for healing, and
  • incorporate practical skills for self-care during your healing process.

Sexuality does not have to be forever broken. Rest assured in a God who understands and loves you in the deepest of deep ways―and begin your journey toward wholeness, restoration and healing.

As a survivor and someone who walks alongside others navigating the aftermath of trauma and coercive control, I cannot overstate the importance of this book. Body & Soul, Healed & Whole offers something rare and desperately needed: a safe, scripture-rooted space to explore sexuality after abuse without shame, fear, or distortion.

Tabitha Westbrook’s voice is gentle but unflinching. She names the hard things—spiritual abuse, marital sexual trauma, and the long shadow of coercion—with clarity and grace. Her combination of clinical expertise, lived experience, and deep spiritual grounding makes this book a trustworthy companion for those who feel isolated in their pain. She doesn’t rush the process or offer shallow platitudes. Instead, she extends a hand and says, “Let’s walk this together.”

This book is for survivors—whether you’re still in the thick of it, just beginning to unravel your story, or years into your healing journey. It’s also a must-read for anyone working in faith-based advocacy, therapy, or ministry. The sections on arousal structures, embodiment, and spiritual distortion are especially insightful and handled with such care.

Tabitha reminds us that sexuality is not beyond repair. That even when abuse has tried to rewrite our sense of self, God still holds the blueprint for our healing. This is an invitational guide in the truest sense—one that gently calls you toward wholeness.

Excellent book to help you heal through sexual hurt.

Healing is not a one-and-done. It is a continual doing as the brain forms and fortifies neural networks and as the Spirit sanctifies us.

As a survivor who is impacted by the harm of trauma, abuse and coercive control, “Body & Soul, Healed & Whole,” is pact with practical solutions and provides somatic practices and healing words spoken with kindness, compassion and gentleness.

Tabitha shares her intimate personal stories of harm with bravery and honesty inviting the reader to an embodied guide for healing from sexual harm and distortion.

Tabitha helps the reader/listener understand bodily and behavioral responses that are common and normal during and after sexual harm.

The church should be the safest place for wounded people, yet sexual abuse is not talked about in the church. There isn’t language for the impacts and scars of trauma, abuse and coercive control in the church.

Be assured, there is no spiritual bypassing in this book.

In this needed masterpiece, Tabitha guides survivors to a healthy sexuality by disentangling over-sexualized words (e.g., arousal and sensuality) and expands intimacy beyond sexual intercourse.

Your body will experience healing as you read or hear Tabitha’s trust and reliance on Jesus as she guides through somatic bottom up practices.

Your soul will experience freedom from the tight grip of shameful thoughts and difficult overwhelming emotions that follow sexual trauma, abuse and coercive control.

Tabitha offers practical help to finding community after community has caused harm; and offers help with setting boundaries.

As a counselor I am hopeful and rejoice that Body & Soul, Healed & Whole provides the language that helpers, church ministers, and survivors need or have been seeking.

This book will have the reader/listener saying, “These are the words that I needed to hear.”

I encourage you to buy this book, you will hold it tight as you learn to become embodied again.

It will change your life as it has mine.

It will be a compassionate guide as Tabitha speaks as a safe guide towards healing and wholeness.

Tabitha Westbrook takes the hand of the reader and walks them through a profoundly personal, challenging, intimate, dark, light, honest, heartbreaking, and heartwarming journey towards healing wounds victims have been shamed out of understanding. The most amazing part about it all is that as Tabitha leads the reader toward restoration and healing, her other hand is firmly placed in Jesus, who is Healing. This book changed my life, because it gave me the clarity and confidence to seek God-fearing therapy through Tabitha’s Organization The Journey And The Process. I heard about this book on the Laura Lynn Tyler podcast during Tabitha’s interview. After reading I reached out and got an immeadiate response into the community. I could not recommend this book enough, it is annoited.

Reading anything on healthy sexuality was not high on my list of reading topics, but when Tabitha introduced this book into the world, I knew I could trust the information that it contained. Tabitha is an internationally respected trauma therapist and advocate for abuse survivors.

From the very start she expressed compassion and care for those who have had their sexuality shattered. She weaves a beautiful tapestry of care, compassion and wisdom throughout the book, guiding the reader toward a better understanding of their own story of sexual harm. She sets a foundation for healthy sexuality and answers the hard question no one dares to ask. The healing journey is not quick or easy, but with books like Body & Soul, Healed & Whole, women feel heard, seen and cared for. It shines a light on that dark and scary path and gently encourages us to take the next step.

This book is also a great resource for pastors, counselors, advocates, friends, and family. Let’s all be equipped to wisely and compassionately walk with those who have suffered great harm, showing them the love and grace of Christ.

  6. Ethan Brooks

Tabitha knows what she’s talking about. She is a licensed trauma therapist and an expert in domestic abuse, coercive control and sexual abuse and is an advocate for abuse survivors. She approaches these subjects with a wealth of knowledge and experience and in a direct, but compassionate manner. Understanding of impacts and how to heal are throughout. She is a safe person, always worth listening to, in my opinion. She and this book are a gift.

  7. K. Haecker

I knew this book would be good because I know the author but had no idea how good it would be! It is the perfect blend of her personal journey and her professional expertise. The gentleness and kindness that survivors need, coupled with the tools for change, make it comforting and challenging at the same time. Having done my own recovery work and working with survivors for over 25 years, I have found in this book new tools and hope. While she comes from a Christian perspective, it is not a “religious” book. Persons of any faith or none at all will be comfortable here.

  8. Noah Fischer

As a licensed Christian trauma therapist, THIS IS THE BOOK WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR! I’m so grateful for Tabitha’s research, clarity and easy-to-relate approach that teaches sexually-abused women not just how to better understand what they’ve been through, but how to heal.
